I'm a DIYer, woodworker, mechanical engineer, and former NASA flight controller for the International Space Station.
I'm pretty much all about tool reviews here, with a few shop tips thrown in occasionally.
Some of the product links I list on my channel are affiliate links - I get a commission when you buy something through them, but it still costs the same to you. Some of the tools I review are provided to me by the tool manufacturers for the purpose of reviewing. If this is the case, there will be a disclaimer in the video description. Otherwise, I bought the tool myself.

DeWalt 20V Max Cordless Dual Function Inflator Review
Thank you for that video. I just have ordered this item. Want to own it very soon!
Just ordered the parts, thanks for such a detailed video!
What is the lip part on the guard for? Just to protect the blade from cutting us?
As far as I can tell the guard helps protect the user from getting cut, and prevents attempts to cut materials that are too thick for the motor to handle.
Amazing tutorial, thanks so much!!!
Want to purchase. What is price of this wrench
slightly off-topic, but as an engineer who's just accepted that every film and sci-fi franchise will get this wrong, i appreciate that you correctly said "which damp vibrations" instead of "dampen" 🙃
As an engineer who specializes in vibration diagnostics, I am so happy that you noticed! One of my greatest pet peeves that absolutely no one gets it right. I mean, they're not throwing water on those vibrations! 😂
By far, the BEST weed eater I have ever used. Hands down, no comparison
I did this but when my daughter is going in grass or little hills the jeep cuts out. Would it be due to to small of wiring? Thanks
Sounds like the motor is starved of current for higher torque situations. Possibly due to too small of a wire gauge, or if the buck converter current setting isn't turned up to the max setting.
The two clamp arms are cheap plastic and should also be metal. One just snapped on mine and now this saw guide is completely useless. I’m using the same exact Milwaukee M18 saw, too. This sucks.
Got mine after struggling to even get any use of my Dewalt battery oscillator one for a couple years. Didn't realize they could even be this smooth, blows the Dewalt Battery tool out of the water. I think at speed 2 or 3 it already is beating the Dewalt and it goes to 8. NICE
Absolute junk, if it was on fire l wouldn't waste urine on it.
it seems weak
It's not.
Can it cut clear acrylic?
No, you need a CO2 laser for clear acrylic. This diode machine does great for opaque acrylics though. You may be able to cut translucent acrylic with it, but I haven't tried to do so myself.
@@DoresoomReviews 😫😫😫 it's painful because I can't afford to have one CO2, I could put some money together and get this machine, but for what I want to work with requires mostly clear and white acrylic
The battery has a five year warranty now if you register it.
Do you have the 10Ah battery? I think that one is 5 years, but smaller ones are 3 years.
@@DoresoomReviews Actually I have the 4 amp battery but the 5 amp also got the 5 year warranty if you register. I just did mine two weeks ago.
What is the measuring range?
This might be a stupid question, but when you say sacrificial edge of a 32” do you mean your cutting a 32nd off the track itself? Sorry man but that confused me hahaha
Don't cut the aluminum, just cut 1/32" off the blue and black strip along the side. That gives you a perfect edge to line up on your workpiece.
I bought it and very unhappy it stops every 3 sec and turbo not even work because it stop automatically even when battery is charge Dont buy this blower
That's a defective blower. Take it back to the store.
Great review thank you. Will this do the job for 1/3 acre under a single cut with a bit of hill slope here and there?
It will be close, I'd plan on having at least an extra 5Ah battery if I were you. I have a mostly flat 1/6 acre with a pretty steep hill on one back corner. It usually has 3 of 5 bars left when I finish mowing, but sometimes it drops to 2 of 5 when the grass is extra tall.
I did similar however, I just used a small diameter screw and screwed the rubber feet to my plywood screwing straight through the hole in the rubber and into the plywood. I kept the screw head just at the top of the hole and didn’t run the head into the hole in the rubber because I didn’t want to expand the rubber too much. I did this in all of the appropriate locations. Then I just put some spit on the grommets and pressed my charger to the rubber grommets. The great thing about this is I didn’t have to calculate the screw locations. I just put toothpaste on the feet bottom and set my charger to my mounting wood to transfer the locations for the screws.
Do they make a left hand version?
No
Can we engraving on powder coated flasks
Yes, it should be able to handle that just fine.
Can I simply add a second blade like your mower? Do I need another part?
No, there's a part for mounting and indexing both blades together. The Select Cut is the only mower series that I'm aware of from EGO that can have two blades mounted together.
@@DoresoomReviews Thanks, I just bought an extra blade and mounted it to the first one. Looks okay. I will update after I cut.
Great video, very comprehensive
Sold!!! Off to Lowe's 🍻
Big sh ... all batterys moving
Cant get sawdust on the nonskid parts? seems like a bad design.
It just brushes or blows off. Literally every track saw track is made with similar non-skid sacrificial edges.
I picked up this at Lowes and didn't realise it had been opened. Not sure if unopened "boxes" are supposed to have instructions, but mine surely didn't and the Kreg RUclips channel certainly didn't help. You, my friend, gave such comprehensive instructions that I was able to set this thing up in minutes. I can't wait to do my first cut with it tomorrow (and thanks to your advice, I'll start by cutting a piece of scrap wood to ensure the tool is accurate. Thank you so much for this video!
Great Video. I found an older model without the stop and slot in the guide for the purpose of ripping one 20-foot deck board. I think this will be after than using a table saw.
As I just posted on another page that I can't justify spending the money on the new unit.. cause the k5 unit I have hasn't been used enough to make that purchase. I come across this gem of a video. Now, I am going back to looking at more in-depth videos of how to use the k5 system. I bought it like 7 years ago... and the time plus chemo brain has left all that information in the past and need to relearn how to use it better.
I bought that same mower in spring of 2020 when Home Depot was carrying it. First generation of the Select Cut with 7.5 amp battery. My review as I am now into my 5th season is that it is EXCELLENT!! Not one issue with the mower and the battery is holding a charge as it did on day one. All that I have done to maintain this mower is sharpen the blades every season.
Great video subbed! Question. My son has a Grave Digger that runs on a 24v power wheel battery. I’m wanting to convert it to my Hart 20v or 40v battery system. Which would be easier or safer?
I'd try the 20V first, just by hooking it straight up where the original battery connects to. It will probably run a little slower though. If it's too much of a loss of speed, then you could look into a 40V to 24V buck converter.
Thanks for clearing this up. Wasn't sure what the difference was initially
Great vid. Thanks for the info 🙏👍 Just a little tip. Try to reduce the number of times you say "Uh" and "Uhm"
Thanks for the feedback! I've gotten a lot better about that in the past few years. 😄
My daughters is this fast with the factory 12v battery. I’m trying to figure out a way to bypass it to make it slower. Lol
You could try a 6V battery, but it's possible that will make it too slow. For DC motors, speed is proportional to voltage.
But... didnt you already have a battery... free of charge??😏
Hahahaha, that took me a second to get. Ba-dum-tss.
Ego is crap. It keep shutting off, I took it to ego repair center and after having my mower for 3 weeks I was told nothing is wrong with it, the grass I'm cutting is too high it can only cut up to 2 inches of grass.
Sorry to hear you had trouble with yours. Were you using a 5Ah or bigger battery with it? The 2.5Ah and smaller have trouble outputting enough current for more power hungry tools like the lawnmower and snowblower. Mine's still going strong 3+ years later. I just posted a follow up video: ruclips.net/video/97q_Ov14ahQ/видео.html
Thanks for showing and demonstrating the self-sharpening feature. The blade and guide is touching and I thought it was a defect because it makes a slight noise when the blade spins. I was going to return it for another one. After seeing your review, I would assume they're all made that way.
I think you are denigrating this great trimmer. You state "If your taller than me" well everybody is taller than you, I have never seen an adult male so vertically challenged.as you. EGO designs this string trimmer for average to taller people, not children size adults. My wife is 5' 5" and can operate this using the shoulder strap with no issue.
I made it very clear that it likely wouldn't be an issue for taller people, not sure why you're getting upset about that point. I gave it a pretty positive review other than that. Rule of thumb in engineering design is to make it fit the 5th percentile female to 95th percentile male. That range is 4'11" to 6'2". You say your 5'5" wife has to use a shoulder strap with it, which is an extra accessory that doesn't come with the trimmer. 58% of women and 6% of men are under 5'5". That provides more weight to my argument that EGO didn't design it for short people.
@@DoresoomReviews EGO doesn't care about your opinion. Short people (other than yourself) would handle the display to know if it is not suitable and not waste their time buying it only to return it. EGO provides a strap for managing the overall weight of the trimmer not operating it. In case you are unaware most women do not have the arm strength of men. I have seen reviews of men also using the strap for trimming particularly large yards.
The point of a review is to help people decide if they want to buy or not. I just saved everyone my height or shorter the trouble of having to go check for themselves in-store. Also, most people are able to watch a review and decide what parts are relevant to them. Some unfortunately aren't capable of that though.
Somebody's a Fallout fan!
I started with the Nuka Cola coaster, and then just got carried away and made a whole set. 😂
Helpful and accurate, thank you. Question: does the mower "require" you to hold left and right side green bars start handles down/in at the same time to keep self propelled action engaged? It seems that when i only held one down it would "shut off" after a minute...? Confused and thanks for your help.
Mine does this when using one hand? Do I really need to have both handles pushed in to mow? If so that's not right nor is it listed in specs or safety manual???
Those switches are sensitive, and what I think is happening is when you're holding it with one hand and you ease up the tiniest bit on pressure, it registers as you've let go and cuts the mower power. When holding it with two hands, the chances of a "false positive" handle release from both switches at the same time is much lower. I prefer a traditional wire bail design that has a lot more forgiveness in it - I think those switches on the Ryobi were one of my least favorite features.
@@DoresoomReviews think you nailed it. I'm guessing that is why Ryobi went with the "wire bail" on the higher cost mower. Thank you for getting back to me.
do they make a 72x28 version of this table? uline has one, but it's not adjustable and there's no drawers. 24" is way too small for things like t-shirts (vinyl printing)
No, unfortunately they only offer it in 24" depth. You could always add an extra board like I did to get it to 28" though.
Doesn't even fit on a Skilsaw Worm Drive Saw! One of the most popular saws ever and it doesn't even fit! What a JOKE!
Before you return it, buy and attach the Ego shoulder strap.
I sold it to my neighbor who is taller than me. As far as I know, he hasn't had any issues with it. I ended up getting the G2 powerhead this year, which fits my height better.
👍
What kind of distance or range does it have? Like can it see out in a pasture up 200 yards or so to hunt for coyotes?
I've tested it in the dark for finding animals to maybe 50 feet, although I think it could do a little farther than that. Anything very far away will just be a few pixels on the sensor though. Think of what kind of picture you'd get out of a .0046 megapixel camera at 200 yards.
I like the simple switch slider one ! Love it
Bought one for $25.00 at the swapmeet
A brushless version of this would be fun 🤘
They announced a "Whisper Series" version coming out soon, but I think it's still a brushed motor. Anything quieter than this one's banshee scream is a welcome upgrade though!
The 10” and 12” versions sold in Australia do have a chain brake.
They may be a completely new model since this video is 6+ years old. Or it's possible the legal team made them add safety features for different countries. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen that happen.
@@DoresoomReviews I bought mine around 5 years ago.
Will it drain your battery completely if you run it dead?
Yes. I keep an eye on charge level and swap batteries after about 45 minutes just to be safe.
